System Engineer

Calxeda is bringing revolutionary computational efficiency to the data center, leveraging the ultra-low-power ARM architecture as the foundation for next generation server designs. Calxeda’s platform will consume as little as 1/10th of the power of today’s best-in-class servers, enabling data centers to realize significant reduction in capital expenses, power, space and cooling. The Calxeda platform is specifically designed for servers, scaling efficiently to thousands of processor nodes, with unique network and storage acceleration, and is further enhanced with management technology to deliver true “energy-proportional” computing.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect, specify and design board and system level solutions with Calxeda customers
  • Drive Calxeda internal standards across customers to maximize design leverage
  • Drive fundamental know-how for engineering tasks, such as component selection, design reviews, and assembly
  • Represent Calxeda across all engineering disciplines, like mechanical, electrical, and software
  • Define the milestones and constraints, related to schedule, cost and quality.
  • Create subsystem specifications and design guidelines 
  •  Own the creation of validation plans, execution, and issue triage
  • Maintain key supplier relationships for critical commodities

Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE), or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with substantial experience and 12+ years of PC server design experience
  • Leadership and management skills to effectively collaborate with diverse hardware and software engineering teams
  • Self-motivation to drive for results in this brand new field of ARM-based servers
  • Detailed knowledge of hardware systems design, including schematic design, common signal integrity practices, PCB layout, testability, board bring up, and issue resolution
  • Knowledge of PCI Express, Ethernet interfaces at all speeds, SATA, and I2C are a plus
  • Excellent verbal and presentation skills for customer-facing interactions
