Based in Highland’s Shanghai office, Kuantai is a Managing Director focused on early and early growth stage technology investments with primary areas of experience and interest in Internet, mobile Internet, digital media, electronic components and semiconductor companies. Kuantai brings more than 16 years experience in venture capital, investment banking and engineering product development. Kuantai represents Highland on the boards of Viva and Gamewave Interactive, and is a board observer of Tuniu. Before joining Highland, Kuantai served as Managing Director of Intel Capital China. While at Intel, he invested in Actions Semi (Nasdaq: ACTS), BCD (Nasdaq: BCDS), Chipsbank, Incesoft, Montage Technology, Palm Commerce, Parade Technology (GTSM: 4966), Verisilicon, Winking Entertainment, Yeepay and 51.com.
Prior to joining Intel, Kuantai was an investment banker at Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) based in Hong Kong for 5 years, responsible for the non-Japan Asia Technology Investment Banking business for Asian technology companies. He was responsible for the sourcing and execution of many IPOs, follow-on offerings, private placements, convertible bonds and mergers and acquisitions with total transaction sizes exceeding US$5 billion.
Kuantai began his career at Cypress Semiconductors where he spent 6 years in various engineering roles including Technology Integration Manager and Fab Engineering Manager. During the time, Kuantai led several R&D teams to successfully develop and put into volume production 3 generations of SRAM process technologies. Kuantai holds two US patents in semiconductor process technology.
The prestigious Forbes Midas List has recognized Kuantai as one of the top venture capitalists in China.
Interests Kuantai is married with a daughter. His main interest is to spend time with his family and he enjoys golf, hiking and traveling. Kuantai is the founding chairman of Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network (CAAAN) China Committee which assists Cornell University with its undergraduate admission and recruitment activities in China since 2004. |
