Matt Nichols

Matt is a Principal at Highland focusing on digital media and Internet investments with an emphasis on online advertising, mass-customization, and online media. He invests in early stage companies as well as later stage opportunities including growth equity, venture buyouts, spin-outs and recapitalizations. Matt is actively or has been involved with Bullhorn, Gemvara, Hangout Industries, OpenSky, Quattro Wireless (acquired by Apple) and Turbine (acquired by Warner Bros). Matt is a Founding Executive Committee Member of First Growth Venture Network a network of venture and angel investors supporting first and second time entrepreneurs building exciting companies in the New York area.

Background
Prior to joining Highland, Matt was a member of Google’s corporate development team, where he was responsible for digital media acquisitions and investments. Matt also worked at Morgan Stanley Venture Partners, where he identified and managed investments in the technology sector. His investments included Avamar (acquired by EMC), Tarari (acquired by LSI) and Perceptive Software (acquired by Lexmark International). Matt was a member of Morgan Stanley’s Technology Corporate Finance group, where he was part of the Google IPO team and advised clients such as Dell and Intuit.

Matt also consulted for the Harry Fox Agency (the rights enforcement arm of the National Music Publishers Association) on the impact of digital delivery and Internet advertising on the music industry.
